The Bi-Centennial Coastal Cliff Walk
The Bi-Centennial Coastal Cliff Walk covers a stretch of Crown Land coast important to the history of NSW. It has world class views of the ocean, the harbour, the entrance to Sydney Harbour and the city. It starts in Christison Park and runs past seven heritage items including Macquarie Lighthouse. It travels through Lighthouse Reserve and
Signal Hill Reserve passing Signal Station and the Signal Hill fortifications. Gun placements and defensive tunnels there were used not only in World Wars I and II, but to protect the early colony from invaders, including French, American, Spanish, Russian and German. From along this part of the BCCC Walk one had open views of the entrance to Sydney Harbour. The Bi-Centennial Coastal Cliff Walk continues north past monument to Lieutenant G. J. Grieve and through Gap Park, where there are views of St. Peter’s Anglican Church and rock inscriptions. It ends at the Dunbar Anchor at The Gap, Watson’s Bay. It is well known for whale watching. According the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage the Recommended Management is:” it is strongly recommended that there be no alterations or modifications to the equipment, relics, natural vegitation and rock formations, or structures included in the area of the Bi-Centennial Coastal Cliff Walk."(1)
